These are often RPGs, and so being transformed changes your stats and reactions from other characters. The RPG Maker engine is versatile and so there are a good number of transformation games using the engine. Combining the functionality of RAGS with the simplicity of prose editing, Twine has become the community's most popular engine due of its ease of use. Twine allows for a much lower bar of entry for novice game makers, while providing a higher production ceiling for experienced coders. While not particularly stable at the time of release, it was used to produce the site's most influential Transformation game, Cursed! (AnonymousMan, 2011). Rapid Adventure Game System is a (now outdated) graphical interface for puzzle games. Site policies allow for generally unrestricted development, though illegal content and abusive reviews are banned on forums and database alike. It is also worth noting that a large percentage of content on the IGDB is incomplete due to the time consuming nature of game development. Some of the more ambitious game builders have their own sites (Fenoxo's games for example) or run their communities via discord. This is changing slightly as crowd funding becomes more prevalent and hobbyists go professional. The majority of games housed on TFGS are experimental projects focused explicitly on Transformation. In addition, there is a 'PointShop' system, weekly lottery and avatar design functions. TFGS also provides more traditional spaces for Role Playing (chat, pm, forums) though activity is dwindling as players migrate to discord. Site-wide Game-making contests are held on occasion, though such events are short-lived due to the workload involved in such enterprises. This allows greater interaction with established (and upcoming) designers, but tends to fragment the user-base with players congregating around specific games. ![]() With the community dedicated primarily to gaming, each project is allocated a forum thread managed by the game maker. ![]() ![]() Once dropped, the object takes on the size as it appears to the player, and the small block has now been made large enough to jump onto and a path to the doorway has been made. The player must take a small block and hold it in such a way that it looks large in the room. For example, say the door to the next room is set high up into a wall. Players move from room to room, picking up objects and changing their view to make the object appear larger or smaller to fit their needs based on the puzzle. ![]() The story keeps players guessing and leads them down an increasingly vexing and engaging journey through dreams. Just like the puzzles you solve, all is both as it seems and also not. What’s great about this game though is that it takes those concepts and puts its own spin on them. There have been games like Portal that have touched on the concept of players going “off the grid” and not adhering to the therapy or exercise set out for them, all the while badgered by an antagonistic AI. Much of the story of Superliminal seems fairly familiar. Things seem a bit off as the game progresses. The AI starts to allude to the character not taking well to the treatment, the head of the institute starts to contact them about not being where they’re supposed to be, and peculiarities arise with each level passed, all leading to a conclusion that will leave players with much to think about. Though the protagonist breezes through the ensuing puzzles, it becomes clearer after each room that perhaps this therapy is not going as smoothly as they’d like. It informs them that they are in fact in a dream, and therapy will consist of solving the puzzles in front of them. The protagonist starts to hear frequent comments broadcast over the PA system from the Standard Orientation Protocol, a computer AI tasked with orienting the subjects taking part in the SomnaSculpt program. The main character’s only path forward is through the hallways in front of them. The individual has apparently started therapy. The player awakens in a plain room containing only a desk, a ‘terms of service’ contract and pen laying atop it. Superliminal opens with the unnamed protagonist falling asleep watching a commercial about a new type of dream therapy called SomnaSculpt, pioneered by Dr. These wild quirks of perception are explored in Superliminal, a game where the player’s perspective plays a key role in the qualities of the objects and environment around them. Pictures appear to move by arranging lines in a certain pattern, and dresses can simultaneously appear black and blue to some, while others see the same dress as gold and white. It’s due to our reliance on perception that optical illusions have such a strange effect on our senses. For example, if something looks green, we can conclude that it is in fact green. How humans see the world boils down to how they perceive it. ![]() ![]() ![]() And the end of the day is science/social studies and then clean up and dismissal. For example, on Mondays, the teacher might ask the children to tell everyone what they did over the weekend. Since my biggest academic block is literacy, I choose to have that block at the beginning of our school day. The day often begins with a short discussion time. Line the children up and have them walk through a speedy daily schedule, such as the morning meeting, science, writing, math, art class and social studies. I make my academic schedule before the first day of school, so depending on the make-up and dynamics of my class, I have permission to change and do what is best for my students! I will add that I always try and do what is best for my students and class. A transition would be any time students are. The economic and health crises of the past few years have taken a massive toll on mental health, with the World Health Organisation announcing that depression and anxiety spiked 25% in 2020, with more than 1 billion people now suffering from a mental disorder. The chaos and disruption mentioned earlier prompt companies to adjust and adapt, because those that don’t will become obsolete in a very short space of time. Debates around equality, diversity and inclusion have grown over the past few years, with global movements like Black Lives Matter and #MeToo highlighting the rampant prejudices that still exist today. This has become an absolutely essential topic for organisations because it has to be about more than just box ticking. It’s about choosing to see solutions where others see problems. Companies like Netflix and IBM have used the disruption to pivot their model and address a new and emerging demand.
